Water and ozone washing machines: goodbye to bacteria, viruses, and unpleasant odors

Let's shed some light on this natural and eco-friendly washing method to understand its advantages in the age of coronavirus.

Ozone - a natural gas and one of the main oxidizing agents found in nature: when it comes into contact with water, it turns into pure oxygen and breaks down organic substances. In the specific case of the virus, it acts directly on the lipid membrane that covers it , rendering it inactive.

However, as it is a fairly unstable molecule, it cannot be stored and must be produced at the time of use, meaning it cannot be added in tablet form when needed. To produce it , oxygen and electrical discharges capable of transforming 3 O2 atoms into 2 O3 atoms are required for the duration of the washing bath (usually 6 to 8 minutes).

Completely eco-friendly and natural, this powerful disinfectant offers other advantages in addition to its sanitizing action:

  • It acts on viruses, bacteria, fungi, mold, and spores;
  • It is effective at low temperatures;
  • allows you to use fewer chemicals: the oxidizing action actually "consumes" the stains (although it does not remove them completely);
  • Avoid using fabric softeners, thanks to the ozone detangling function (especially if used in the final rinse) and facilitates the subsequent drying phase;
  • No special drainage into the sewer system is required since, at the end of the process, only simple oxygen is produced.

However, attention should be paid to some peculiarities of this washing system:

  • The stain consumed/oxidized by ozone requires a synthetic detergent to be removed. Ozone, in fact, inactivates detergents of natural or enzymatic origin.
  • To use natural or enzymatic detergents, ozone should only be used in the final rinse. Even if the disinfectant/sanitizing power of ozone is maintained, it is important to note that this solution is not recommended for hospitals and nursing homes.
  • In the case of colored garments, especially if the pigment is of natural origin, there may be color loss. To overcome this problem, simply add ozone during the final rinse. The action time should be 4 minutes.

Our washing machines are ozone-ready.

Washing with water and ozone is therefore a very powerful method against COVID-19 (and not only), ensuring maximum hygiene, cleanliness, and sanitization of linen, with the advantage of being natural and environmentally friendly, as it requires a much lower amount of chemicals and a much lower operating temperature than other methods.

Two features that perfectly match our production philosophy. That is why we are pleased to remind you that our GWH, GWM, and GWN washing machines are all ozone-ready, meaning they can be equipped with an ozone dosing system and easily connected to a generator or ozonated water supply systems.
