Water and ozone washing machines: goodbye to bacteria, viruses, and unpleasant odors

Let's shed some light on this natural and eco-friendly washing method to understand its advantages in the age of coronavirus.

Ozone —a natural gas and one of the main oxidizing agents found in nature—comes into contact with water, it becomes pure oxygen and acts by breaking down organic substances. In the specific case of the virus, it acts directly on the lipid membrane that covers them, rendering them inactive.

As it is a rather unstable molecule, it cannot be stored and must be produced at the time of use, which is why it cannot be added in tablet form when needed. To produce it , oxygen and electrical discharges capable of transforming 3 O2 atoms into 2 O3 atoms are required during the washing bath (normally 6 to 8 minutes).

Entirely ecological and natural, this powerful disinfectant, in addition to its sanitizing action, offers other advantages:

  • It acts on viruses, bacteria, fungi, molds, and spores.
  • It is effective for low temperatures;
  • allows you to use fewer chemicals: the oxidizing action actually "consumes" the stains (even if it does not remove them completely);
  • avoid using fabric softener, thanks to the ozone detangling function (especially if used during the final rinse) and facilitates the subsequent drying phase;
  • does not require special drains in the sewer system because, at the end of the process, it is simply oxygen.

However, attention should be paid to certain specific features of this washing system:

  • Stains consumed/oxidized by ozone require synthetic detergent to be removed. Ozone renders natural or enzymatic detergents ineffective.
  • To use natural or enzymatic detergents, it is necessary to use ozone only during the final rinse. Even though ozone retains its disinfecting/sanitizing power, it is important to note that this solution is not recommended for hospitals and nursing homes.
  • In the case of colored clothing, especially if the pigment is of natural origin, there may be some color loss. To overcome this problem, simply add ozone only during the final rinse. The action time should be 4 minutes.

Our washing machines are ready for the ozone layer

Washing with water and ozone This is therefore a very powerful method against Covid-19 (and not only), guaranteeing maximum hygiene, cleanliness, and disinfection, with the advantage of being natural and environmentally friendly, as it requires a much lower quantity of chemicals and a much lower operating temperature than other methods.

Two characteristics that are perfectly aligned with our production philosophy. That is why we are pleased to remind you that our GWH, GWM, and GWN washing machines are all ozone-ready, meaning they can be equipped with an ozone dosing system and easily connected to a generator or ozonated water supply systems.
